Ghana’s HIV/AIDS statistics

According to the Ghana AIDS Commission, the total number of individuals living with HIV/AIDS as at December 2021 stood at a figure of 346,120 people. Out of this population, the majority of 66% are females. With the total number of males being 34%. A wide gap between these genders.

It is believed that this value isn’t the total number as the percentage of individuals living with HIV/AIDS who are aware and captured in the nations data of their status is a value estimated to be a 71%, implying a percentage of 29% of individuals who have the virus with them in their blood have no idea they actually have the virus and will live with it until per chance it is randomly identified or signs and symptoms prompt the need for such a lab test.

It is of greater concern to note that in just the first half of this year (January to June) 2022, A total of 23,495 people in Ghana tested positive for HIV. This is as high as recognizable since as of December 2021, the estimated population of HIV-positive persons in the country identified by the Control program was 346,120, representing a percentage of 71. Now if this rate continues, the increase in HIV positive cases will be so high, much higher than any recorded in the last decade.
