What is your middle name? Does it carry any special meaning/significance?

My middle name- Sarpong

Man this is one powerful name with more significance than can be written in a single article. Where did I take my Sarpong from?? Well from daddy’s side of the family and I kinda hold it close to my heart. In fact, planning on making my surname in a few years to come *grin*.

Significance – SUPREME

I quite remember questioning what all my names meant but well there didn’t seem to be anyone ready to provide the answer I needed so I resorted to finding my answer by myself, from anywhere possible and what I found made me much more proud if my name. And that was years ago.

My name Sarpong simply means supreme. A name used by great men, leaders and chiefs of the Ashanti kingdom. Apparently, the name has two rootz; an Arabic and an Akan (Ashanti) root.

The first part of the name, SA, is known to have an Arabic root meaning ‘Supreme’ with the later part ‘Pong’ which has it’s root in Akan also meaning the same thing as Supreme.

However, the first part ‘SA’ means a different thing altogether in Akan and that is ‘War’. So in ancient times, Sarpong was a name given to renowned heroes of war to mean ‘Supreme Warrior’ or ‘Great Warrior’. So yep I am a great warrior.

In other definitions, Sarpong means someone born during such a great war.
